REPURPOSED HIGHWAYS
In the growing shared economy, it is not hard to imagine a future in which individuals do not drive cars, but use automated vehicles to ride share in urban settings.  These new automated vehicles will most likely not use the current highway system, which will be left as unused space.  Rather than demolishing them, they can be repurposed.  These raised highways can be repurposed into urban farms, already connected to the communities they will serve.  The underside of the highways can be rigged to allow for produce to be transported from one area to another.  The abutments and piers of the highway structures can provide shade and support for plants that require it.
