The Hyphenated Identity derives from Peter Feng's essay “Being Chinese American, Becoming Chinese American: Chan Is Missing” and its metaphor of an Asian-American "donut identity". I strived to visualize this hyphenated, donut identity in an interactive website (soon to be live). I modeled amorphous shapes using Blender, mapping collaged images of ambiguously appropriated Chinese textiles on the objects. The models are loaded on the site using three.js. Site visitors can interact with and zoom into the objects, immersing themselves into the virtual space.
