BDPT: Publishers and the Evolution of Franco-Belgian Comics in Portugal
February — 2019

BDPT is a project for the second assignment in ESAD's MA in Communication Design, The Map is Not the Territory. The objective was to make either a place or a journey, collecting the necessary data and transforming it into visual communication. I choose to map my father's comic book collection, using his database as a starting point. The final work depicts the role of portuguese publishers in the diffusion of Franco-Belgian comics in Portugal.
The final result contains a graphic showing book distribution by publisher per year, color coded according to each different series. Below the graphic there is a timeline with important events regarding the universe of Franco-Belgian comics, and underneath that a small paragraph regarding each publisher's story. On the far right you can find a small chart with the number of books released by collection, along with an icon of the protagonist(s) and a four letter acronym based on the title of each series, also colour coded to match the big graphic.

This piece works as an informative wall panel, and was likewise designed and printed in a large format (60cm x 200cm).
