The Columa Lamp

The Columa Lamp was conceived as a derivative of a desk lamp with the feature of adaptability, floating over the desk allowing the user to adjust it according to different scenarios. The tubular lamp has a rotatable outer shell made from wood and frosted sheet acrylic. When the arrows on the shell are accurately aligned with the ON switch on the center ring, the lamp lights up and emits a soft light diffused by the frosted acrylic. When the user slides the shell outwards, the lamp is brighter becomes brighter and covers a greater area. The lamp was designed on the idea of light with multiple purposes which respond to the user’s multiple needs, simultaneously not compromising the quality of the light and guarantees total practicality making it a flexible, functional yet highly personalized product. The lamp is designed to hang from the ceiling, yet future desktop, wall mount options are being considered. The Structural wooden member compliments the overall form by giving a warm and humble nature to the lamp and breaking the monotony of the fast corporate realm. It also highlights the functions of this lamp with its appearance.
