Travel by Touch
Travel is coveted. It is praised. It is worshipped. People spend their whole lives trying to travel the world. They try to glimpse places unseen, untraveled, and unruly grasping at anyway to make the vastness feel attainable. This art piece is a design which reminds the user of how small they are, and how much there is yet to explore.
After College, I want to travel the world and work as a missionary. I chose these countries based on ones I have lived in or ones that I have interest in living. Go corps and Lead are two organizations that I hope to apply.
My design involved creating a laser cutting file with enough detail to be obvious the various places the map was highlighting. Then it had fully cut out countries, so that they would be free to move. This allowed me to use capacitive touch sensors for the six sensors. I cut out foam core to hold up the countries and attached the touch sensor to the bottom of it.
Here is a Easy EDA schematic of the wiring for my design.
