Project inspiration
Nostalgia is considered to be a bright positive feeling caused by various memories. It's no secret that our brain erases many negative memories, leaving only the good ones. But is nostalgia really that positive?
In fact, the emotions caused by nostalgia are very multifaceted - from positive and bright to dreary and depressive regrets. Speaking of the dark side, it is worth mentioning nostalgic depression - a sense of hopelessness of reality and a constant living in the past, which cannot be returned.
Task and embodiment
The main task was to reflect this duality of feelings and sensations, showing the contrast between the two extremes of thinking. For this, the format of abstract illustrations was chosen with various symbolic elements to express memories, forms of emotions and specific objects from childhood. I considered it a good option to bring elements of Slavic culture in the form of items and sweets specific to the CIS countries. The imitation of the paper cut method proved to be effective enough to create depth and layering, which is great for the focus of the assignment.
